Responding to a reported spike in hate crime in the UK and racist incidents taking place in communities, the UK Government has undertaken specific initiatives, noting such ‘spikes’ often emerge after the occurrence of ‘international events, and misinterpretations around them.’ In order to better understand, and therefore to develop effective policy responses to such hate crimes, the UK Government reports that it is important to gather robust and disaggregated data, in order to inform public debate and policy responses. In this respect a number of activities and projects undertaken by or supported by the UK can be highlighted.
