The UK’s Near Neighbours initiative is a £5million three-year Communities and Local Government funded programme that aims to bring people of different faiths to work together. The fund has supported over 1,600 local community projects including the creation of community gardens and allotments, establishment of community cafés in deprived areas, the organisation of artistic events exploring issues of religion, the provision of meals for homeless people, etc. Since its establishment Near Neighbours reports it has built and sustained relationships between participants from different faiths, challenging stereotypes, increasing collaboration between different faith and/or ethnic groups, and building capacity to work with marginalised groups.
