This resolution, together with its parallel resolution adopted at by the UN Human Rights Council the UN General Assembly (16/18), form the main intergovernmental policy framework for combatting intolerance, negative stereotyping and stigmatisation of, and discrimination, incitement to violence and violence against, persons based on religion or belief. Both resolutions were adopted by consensus in 2011.
This resolution contains an explicit plan of action to combat intolerance based on religion or belief consisting of eight points of action to be found in operative paragraph 5a-5h.
